Foam fire extinguisher is a special fire-fighting equipment developed for liquid fires. Its core working principle is that the sodium bicarbonate solution and aluminum sulfate solution inside the fire extinguisher are mixed and reacted when in use to generate a large amount of carbon dioxide gas and foamy extinguishing agent. Carbon dioxide gas provides spray power for the foam, while the foam is composed of surfactants, stabilizers and other components, with good coverage and stability. When the foam is sprayed onto the surface of the burning liquid, it will quickly spread to form a dense foam covering layer, which can extinguish the fire in three aspects: first, isolate the air and prevent oxygen from contacting the burning liquid; second, inhibit liquid volatilization and reduce the generation of combustible vapor; third, realize cooling through the evaporation of water in the foam, further curbing the spread of the fire. Compared with dry powder fire extinguishers, foam fire extinguishers have stronger pertinence in putting out liquid fires, especially for low-flash-point flammable liquid fires such as gasoline and diesel, with higher fire-extinguishing efficiency and stronger anti-reignition ability. According to different foam properties, it can be divided into protein foam, fluoroprotein foam, aqueous film-forming foam and other types. Among them, fluoroprotein foam has excellent burning resistance and fluidity, suitable for large oil depots and other places; aqueous film-forming foam can form a water film on the liquid surface, with more efficient fire-extinguishing effect. The application scenarios of foam fire extinguishers are highly focused on places related to liquid fires, including gas stations, oil depots, chemical production workshops, paint factories, printing factories, kitchens (edible oil fires), etc. They can also effectively put out Class A solid fires such as wood and cloth, but are not suitable for putting out electrical fires (foam is conductive) and water-soluble liquid fires (such as alcohol, methanol, etc., foam will be dissolved). Attention should be paid to the standard operation method: before use, the fire extinguisher needs to be inverted to make the two solutions fully mix and react; then pull out the safety pin, hold the nozzle with one hand, press the handle with the other hand, and spray the foam at the root of the flame. It should be noted that direct impact on the burning liquid surface should be avoided to prevent damage to the foam covering layer.
